Immersed in the Italian landscape, nestled among the Umbrian Appennino valleys and hills, lies a farm called “Organic EL.GI.”
Tended to by a team of mycologists and agronomists with a single passion–organic agriculture–the land has always been farmed with natural, traditional methods, and is now certified USDA Organic.
After years of experience in farming with leading agricultural groups, the farm’s owners realized that the only way to achieve the ultimate balance between production and processing requirements was to convert to exclusively organic agriculture. This was an ethical decision as well, based on a desire for excellence in product quality and reliability, not just profits.
Natural physical borders line the perimeter of the land, shielding it from any contamination from adjacent lands, and many sections are lushly forested hunting grounds for truffles. Gathered only in restricted periods of the year, truffles are hunted in accordance with regional regulations, and only with the help of specially-trained dogs. Only mature mushrooms and truffles are harvested to preserve the integrity of the land, ensuring the long-term productivity of the farm.
This unique approach and experience have allowed the farm to win market share with high-quality products like white and black truffles, and boletus mushrooms. The company also specializes in the production of olives, olive oils, farro, lenticchia, grains, grapes and wine on this USDA organic land–one of the largest farming lands in Umbria.
